Historical place profile
Sidi Larbi Boujema
Remains of a presumably Roman settlement were identified but not excavated in the 20th century at the "seyyid" or "marabout" of "Sidi Larbi Boujema", which is said to be situated on the west side of the river Sabou, along what is now the Route Nationale 27 about 5 kilometers south of modern Mechra bel Ksiri in Morocco's Sefsaf commune (Sidi Kacem Province). This location corresponds to the "Al-Arabi Bou Jemaa" cemetery recorded in Google Maps (2025) and visible in satellite imagery. Euzennat (repeating the same in PECS and BAtlDir) tenatively identified the ruins here with (Vo)pisciana (q.v.), which is attested in the Antonine itinerary, but more recent scholarship has followed Rebuffat 2000 in preferring Souq el Arbaâ du Gharb (see "Souk el Arba").
